Having a regular conversation with your partner is not where good communication stops and general discussions about how your day went are not likely to result in your marriage being saved if you are not bothering to converse about the things that are having an adverse effect on your relationship too.

What you need to do is take time to sit down with your partner and really talk about things that are causing problems in your marriage. Go a little deeper than surface level and say exactly what you feel. Let’s face it if you can’t tell the person nearest to you, what chance have you got of making your marriage work?

Of course, communication is not all about doing the talking. With every talker there has to be someone listening or the whole exercise is fruitless. You are likely to discover that there are aspects of your relationship that your spouse is not happy with too, but if you don’t listen to what he or she has to say, there is little point in them telling you about these things in the first place.

Be Positive and Refuse to Fail

By adopting a positive attitude and refusing to let your marriage go off the rails, success is more likely than ever. What we are trying to say here is that deciding you are not going to allow divorce to happen is a great way of stopping things going in this direction.

There are, obviously, cases were you may feel divorce is the only option, such as fraud, physical and mental abuse and infidelity. But if it is your intention to put a cross against the “irreconcilable differences” section of the divorce paperwork you may need to catch your breath and reconsider.

Having finally decided that divorce is not the path you and your partner want to take, you are sure to become stimulated into doing everything you can to make your marriage work out. This motivation alone will be a great solution to stop divorce and get your relationship back on the straight and narrow.
