Three Cs That Answer the Question, “How Do I Save a Marriage”

Despite the impression given by fairy tales, marriage is rarely that “happily ever after” fairy tale. It takes a lot of work to make a marriage work. There are many times when the people in a marriage let things reach the point of no return. This is the time when the relationship is in serious danger and there is a real possibility that it might end in separation or divorce.

You should understand that no matter what problems occur there are ways to deal with them. This can only happen if both parties work together with a common goal in mind.  Facing hurdles and challenges in a relationship can help strengthen the bonds that you share and the experiences will make you both better people.

At times a marriage or relationship can be at the point where both parties have stopped trying to work together. There is no communication and negative behaviors are being displayed.  This will widen any rift and drive people further apart. You have to renew the commitment to work as a team; reopen the lines of communication and arrange counseling if you really want to save the marriage.

One of the most commonly asked questions by people in a sinking relationship is, “How do I save a marriage?” While there is no one answer that covers all situations there are some tips that seem to provide a great deal of help. Here are The 3  C’s  that could help prevent your marriage or relationship from shattering.

1. Commitment is the first key to saving a marriage that is slipping toward oblivion. Both partners must be committed to each other and to the relationship. They must be willing to do whatever is required in order to resolve their differences. This may sound easy, but in practice, it is much more difficult to actually accomplish.  If both parties are committed to salvaging the relationship they will exert the energy and effort necessary to repair the cracks.

2. Communication is vitally important and it is the second key to saving a marriage. Many times it is a lack of communication that is responsible for the tensions, misunderstandings and problems that have occurred. Both parties have to be willing to open the lines of communication and talk things out with each other without accusations and blame.
If your partner does not know what has made you unhappy they can not try to fix the situation.  Ladies, remember that men have a difficult time expressing their emotions verbally and this is where listening plays a big role.  You need to be able talk honestly and openly and leave the drama outside.

3. If the first two C’s are insufficient to pull the relationship back together, counseling may be needed to save the marriage. Counselors are trained in strategies that will help open the lines of communication. They can also suggest possible solutions to problems for couples to try. A counselor can help the individuals in a relationship express their true feelings. Once these concerns are voiced the reasons and issues that created them can be addressed.
