Tips and Information on How to Fix a Broken Relationship

Romantic relationships are complex and emotionally charged, and they   play a very important role in our lives. Unfortunately, many people seem to lack the skills necessary to make these types of relationships work out properly.

We fail to do the necessary work that is required to make the relationship thrive and blossom. Instead many romantic relationships wither and die from neglect. Most of us have no idea how to fix a broken relationship, but here are a couple of pointers that can provide a starting point.

Take time to cool down. If your relationship is broken then it is probably as the result of an argument or disagreement. It really doesn’t matter what started the fight because both of you said and did things in the heat of the moment that you regretted later.

Attempting to contact your ex too soon after the breakup will just continue the same fight.  This is because one of our most basic instincts is to lash out at anything that is causing us pain, even if the pain is not intentional. You need some time apart so that you can let your emotions calm down and then you can talk to each other without creating more pain.

Take a good long look at yourself. You may feel that the breakup is only due to the faults of the other person, but the truth is that none of us are perfect.  Take a little time and you will find some qualities about yourself that need improvement and you will even see the role that you played in the breakup.

It could be something as insignificant your neglecting to cap the toothpaste every morning that set the scene for your last disagreement. Just consider what habits or traits of yours might have become extremely annoying to your partner and try to improve them. Little annoyances are often the reason that many breakups occur in the first place.

This self realization has to happen before you can think about getting back together.  This time that you spend on yourself can make you feel better and it will give you new insight about the relationship. If you decide to make some changes they do not have to be big to be impressive, those small adjustments can have a huge impact regarding the way that others view you.

Restore the lines of communication slowly. If you see your ex in a public place or at a party hosted by friends, it is okay to say hello and begin a casual conversation. Do not jump straight into a serious discussion of your future together. Instead, simply discuss some of the things you know she likes and listen to what she has to say.

Be attentive and show that you are willing to hear her opinions and insights. This may be enough to get her attention and may get her to give you a second look. You can even call or email your ex after several months have passed. Let her know that you just wanted to say hello, and take your lead from her response.

Be willing to let her say what is on her mind and listen closely to what is being said. Do not pick a fight or become defensive, you will score points if you are polite and caring.  She might just begin to remember the things that attracted her to you when you first met.

There are plenty of good suggestions available about how to repair a relationship but they are not going to help unless you use the advice that you are given. It will take some time and effort to make progress because there are so many feelings and emotions involved. Allowing some personal space and keeping communication pathways open are important keys that may help you rekindle the flame.
